The
Tailgate Farmer's Market
The Cabell County Tailgate Farmer's Market is open every
Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday from 7:00 AM until sold out, the last Saturday in
June, through October. We are
located on 14th Street in the
west end of Huntington. The market provides farmers and a variety of
vendors in the Tri-State region an opportunity to sell fresh fruits,
vegetables and other products which is beneficial to them, as well as
the consumer. The outside Cabell County Tailgate Farmer's Market contains 24 stalls under roof
with an expanded area to accommodate an additional 40 truck farmers.
Come and get the freshest produce around.
As a note of interest, the Tailgate Farmer's
Market began in 1979. A group of farmers and businessmen, along with the West
Virginia University Extension Service, gathered to discuss the possibility of
organizing a farmer's market. Bank One and WTCR were the sponsors. Thus the Huntington Tailgate Market
was officially incorporated. The market was first located at the Department of
Human Services property on Route 10 just south of Huntington. After a couple of
years, the farmer's market moved its location to Ninth Street and Third Avenue
where it remained until 1997. Now, we are proud to say, the Cabell County
Tailgate Farmer's Market is
located here at 555 14th Street
West, where it has been located since 1998.
No farm; no food. Tell a farmer thanks! And, thank you for supporting our local
farmers.
